Technoloty News : New users of X Twitter Can get Premium for 1$ with their Experimental promotion

X, formerly Twitter announced today that it is starting a new experimental fee of $1 per year for “new unverified users” to interact with posts. The company said that this test is live in New Zealand, the Philippines and will not affect existing users.

For paying the fee, users will be able to post content such as reposts, replies, bookmarks, and quotes. New free users get a read only account to view posts and follow accounts.

The company’s account on Twitter clarified that the “Not A Bot” program was not a profit-maker — but it is hard to accept this at face value. The Elon Musk owned company claimed that this program would help it reduce spam.

This new test was developed in order to support our successful efforts to reduce spam and bot activity, while maintaining platform accessibility. The company stated that it is not a profit-driver.

We’re testing (Not A Bot), a new program, in New Zealand and Philippines starting today. In order to post and interact with other posts, new, unverified accounts must sign up for an annual subscription of $1. Existing users are not impacted by this test.

The company will share the results on its support page of the program’s effectiveness in combating spam.

Musk had previously said that X would charge users “a small, monthly fee” to use their service. Although the payment in the program is only annual, the ethos is the exact same.

In June, X, which was Twitter at the time of this post, began requiring users log in to view posts. Days later, the platform removed this requirement and allowed users who were not logged in to view posts.

According to a recent report by market intelligence firm Simialrweb, traffic on X is down one year after Musk made his $44 billion purchase. The company has taken drastic measures to reduce costs and start making a profit.

Linda Yaccarino said in an interview last month that X would be profitable by 2024. During the interview, former NBCU executive Linda Yaccarino avoided the question of whether X would charge a fee for users.

X has only one paid plan of $8 per month. According to code recently discovered, the company may introduce three premium tiers, one of which would be ad-free.
